WELCOME TO THE FRIENDS OF NORTHWOOD CEMETERY WEBSITE (Cowes, Isle of Wight)

We have some excellent exposure on Ryde Social Heritage Group web site

If it hadn't been for the heroic action of the Officers and Crew of the Polish Destroyer the ORP Blyskawica (which was undergoing a re-fit in J Samuel White's shipyard at the time of the attack on the night of 4 th /5 th May 1942) many more than the 70 people killed, 31 of whom are buried in Northwood Cemetery, would have lost their lives.

The Objectives of the Friends of Northwood Cemetery are:

. To promote the preservation, maintenance and restoration of Northwood Cemetery including its chapels, monuments, other standing structures and burial records for the public benefit.

. To promote the conservation of the landscape, arboreta, flora and wildlife of Northwood cemetery for the public benefit.
