QUIZ NIGHT
By popular demand, our Quiz Night at the Kingston Arms on Friday 25th February 2011
Once again the fantastic locals of cowes came out to join in our quiz. 15 teams battled to win the wine donated by Baz. Thanks must go to the RNLI teams (2) who not only brought their flag and fabulous raffle prizes, but also, to Karen and her sister who collected £110.00 on the raffle!!
Thanks to The Rotary club of Cowes for putting in two teams; the Cowes Heritage (last years winners) and the brilliant APEX church, who put in 2 teams AND WON!!
We had Jamies Birds and Wheels on the Bus from Northwood; not to mention various locals from the Kingston and surrounding areas that turned out. We had some 'new' friends who heard via the beacon about the event and according to Ronnie Barker, they were called either fork handles or four candles!

The evening began around 7.20ish due to confusion over the start time! Jackie had rigged up a new microphone, and set the room to accommodate as many people as we could! The questions as always, threw many of us; with the exception of the cricket question, of which Jon Matthews a qualified umpire gave a great visual demonstration!

We raised £56.00 from the teams entered.  It was a very enjoyable evening; finishing around 10.00pm................Our thanks to our hosts Jackie and Adrian, and our very lovely 'Friends' - without you it wouldn't have been the success it was!

THE WINNERS !!!!!!!!

The Celebration of Life ‘Open Day,' held at the Cemetery on Sunday 12th September, was a resounding success.

For once, and on the 4th time of asking, magnificent weather blessed an outdoor event organised by the Trustees and over 100 people took advantage of it to attend - including Andrew Turner, the Island's MP.

Although not intended as a fund-raising event, over £200 was donated to the Friends of Northwood Cemetery through the availability of free refreshments (that were themselves kindly donated) - and another 10 “Friends” joined up (bringing the total to 254).

The Trustees would like to thank all those who attended including those who manned the side shows put on by the IW Council Bereavement Services; the IW Red Squirrel Preservation Trust; representatives from the Island's Bat and Butterfly conservation groups and Cruse Bereavement Volunteers.

BUTTERFLIES of NORTHWOOD CEMETERY A very successful ‘butterfly' survey took place in Northwood Cemetery on the 21st July. No less than 16 keen naturalists attended and with warm sunny conditions, were rewarded with a staggering variety of specimens. The group was well represented by members of the Butterfly Conservation Group and the walk was lead by Mr Rob Wilson.

Quiz Night

Our second, and even more successful, Quiz Night took place on Friday 22nd January at the Kingston Arms where 56 people pitted their wits against curly questions posed by Jackie Hunt, our hostess for the evening

Teams from Cowes Rotary (in fact two and a half teams!), the RNLI, the Isle of Wight Family History Society, Cowes Heritage, the Archaeology Department of the IW Council, Cowes Carnival, the Isle of Wight Society, Northwood Parish Council, and the Kingston Arms attended along with a few more teams made up of individuals,

Congratulations go to them, and to everyone who took part in a fun, enjoyably chaotic, evening.

Over £150 was raised for the Friends of Northwood Cemetery.

Reigning supreme on the night was the team from Cowes Heritage (pictured) consisting of David & Win Jones (left) and Brian & Christine Broom (right) (some people were heard to call them professional bandits!).
