Natural Burial Ground

The creation of a Natural Burial Ground has been a major feature of the Northwood Cemetery Heritage Project. This section of the 17 acre Cemetery is the first local authority owned site for natural burials on the Island.

Formerly an area of untidy scrub-land at the south eastern corner of Northwood Cemetery, it has been professionally landscaped and prepared for use as a burial ground.

‘Bio-degradable’ is the key word here; no funerary items are permitted on the grave spaces.
